Shoe Freak Out.

Dear Alan,

I am in a new relationship with a guy I'll call Steven. Steven is great. He is thoughtful and fun to be with and is also a great kisser. Here's my problem: He wears Skechers. I hate Skechers. I think they are the tackiest shoes a person can own. I want him to meet my friends but I'm terrified he'll show up in Skechers. I would be mortified. I don't know what to do. Otherwise he is a great guy.

Sincerely,

Shoe Freak Out.

Alan says:

Dear SFO,

While clothes can make a man you are overreacting to Steven's choice of footwear. This letter speaks volumes about who you are - not Steven. I must assume you have not mentioned your distaste for Skechers because it would let him know that you are an empty headed ninny.

I suggest you mention your pathology before things go further. If he is a "great guy" as you say he'll run for the hills. If he agrees to wear different shoes then he is either desperate for a girlfriend or a perfect match for you.

Hope this helps.

Alan
